PURPLE PHYLLOFORA A genus of deep-sea algae endemic to the northern seas. Found in abundance off the coast of Feyton. It is known that algae produce about ninety percent of the world's oxygen. But phyllophora is the only species that does not require sunlight to do this. Enough water and carbon dioxide. Oyster fishers living in the northern islands take advantage of this property of phyllophores and mark them at the bottom to take a breath of air without having to rise to the surface.. (The bottom of the page is occupied by a rather skillful botanical illustration - the same phyllophora in question.)
