The old fort was the last stronghold of Zagorje during the Second Invasion. There, the soldiers stood up as a wall and did not yield an inch of land to the enemy. The Zagorsk residents did not rebuild the fort, leaving it as an eternal monument. The fallen soldiers were buried within its walls - in chain mail and with swords, and the Lord Commander Mchislav was placed a sarcophagus on the western tower, so that he would watch the surroundings as before.
